Evanston is built around the idea that Jesus is actively working all around us by the power of the Spirit - in our city, in the lives of our neighbors, and in our own lives as well. Our desire is to increasingly become a Church that develops an awareness of his movement and eagerly joins him in it, working together for the renewal of all things.
Sundays are our primary gathering where we meet for a time of fellowship and worship through music, teaching, and prayer ministry. If you have children, we have a Kids’ program for Infants to Grade 5 on Sundays, and Youth gatherings that meet Sunday evenings.
For nearly a century, Evanston has been a place of hope, love, and Gospel transformation. Beginning out of a thriving Bible Study in 1930, Evanston has faithfully continued in worship and teaching over the years.
However, like many long-standing communities, the Church faced a season of decline and uncertainty around 2021, questioning if our time had come to an end. However, in 2022, Evanston took a bold step of faith by bringing on two pastors, praying for a season of revitalization and renewal. Since then, God has breathed new life into our church family, inspiring growth and a renewed vision for the future.
Today, we are living in the faithfulness of God with a renewed vision and purpose, believing that the Spirit is actively restoring lives, relationships, and our city—just like He did with us.
Our values are the guiding principles that shape everything we do as a church. They reflect what we believe, how we live out our faith, and the heart behind our ministry.
Joining Jesus in upholding Scripture.
We hold to the authority of Scripture with conviction, courage, and joy seeking to find ourselves in God’s redemptive story of Rescue and Renewal.
Joining Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in and through God's people and are committed to increasingly pursue Him together.
Joining Jesus by becoming like Him.
Our goal is that we would not be formed by the world, but that instead, we would increasingly become like Jesus. We do this by following the ways of Jesus together.
Joining Jesus as His witnesses.
We believe that each believer is called to live as a witness empowered by the Holy Spirit. As witnesses, we demonstrate God’s goodness to others and invite them to know him personally.
Joining Jesus as the family of God.
We believe that the church is not a collection of individuals, but the family of God. The journey of faith is one done together through a committed, diverse community of self-giving love.
Evanston Avenue Church maintains the historic, orthodox beliefs of the Christian Church. Below you can find the essential beliefs that we teach and uphold.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and has final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 19:7–9
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These persons are equal in every divine perfection, and they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16–17
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of humankind, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Matthew 6:9–10; Psalm 103:13–14; John 4:24
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, His victory over Satan and demons, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.
John 1:14; Philippians 2:5–11; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who was sent from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit lives within every believer in Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide.
John 16:7–8; Romans 8:9–11; Galatians 5:22–23
We believe that God created humankind male and female to bear his image and reflect his character to the rest of creation, thereby bestowing tremendous dignity, value, and worth on individuals. Through disobedience to God, humanity fell into sin, is totally depraved, and apart from God’s intervening grace, remains spiritually dead in trespasses and sins, completely dependent on the mercy of God for salvation.
Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1–3
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice and are therefore under condemnation. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior are justified by His grace, declared righteous before God, and regenerated by the Holy Spirit to new life.
Ephesians 2:8–9; John 3:16; Romans 10:9–10
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers professing faith in Christ, baptized in the name of the triune God, and associated for worship, witness, and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 4:15–16; Acts 2:42–47; Colossians 1:18
We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of humanity; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
Colossians 3:17; Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:12
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for the remembrance of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Romans 6:3–4
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom in fullness. We believe in the body's resurrection, the believer's eternal joy in the presence of God, and the eternal separation from God and final judgment of the unrepentant.
Revelation 21:1–4; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Matthew 25:31–34
